WitSquad is made by Skytech.io, and it is built to need almost nothing from you: a nickname, and the answers you tap. No account, no email, no phone number.

What we keep

  • The nickname and squad name you type. Use a nickname, not your full name.
  • Your answers and how fast you tapped them, to score the game.
  • Game results: your squad's rank, score and right/wrong grid.
  • A random device ID your browser creates, plus a secret that proves it is you. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of the secret. It is not linked to your name, phone or any account.
  • Question packs you write as a host, tied to that device ID.
  • Bar requests, if you ask for WitSquad at a bar: the bar name and city you type, linked to your device ID so each phone counts once.
  • Who shared what: a private link between each result you can share and your device ID and nickname, so we can count how many friends your shared links bring. It stays as long as the result card does. The link itself and your device ID are only ever seen by the WitSquad team.
  • Which questions your device has played, for 180 days, so you don't get the same ones again.
  • A scrambled (hashed) copy of your network address when you start a game, kept for one hour and then deleted. It only stops anyone starting hundreds of games to copy our questions.
  • Simple usage counts: when a game is created, a player joins, a game finishes, or a share link is tapped or viewed. We use these totals to see whether the game is working.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, email address or phone number. A city only appears if you type one into a bar request. Scanning the QR code happens in your phone's own camera app.

What is public

  • Share cards show your squad name, score and grid (and your nickname for the Daily) to anyone with the link.
  • Leaderboards show nicknames, squad names and scores to everyone, plus counts for each nickname: new players their links brought, cards shared, games finished and Daily streaks.
  • Everyone in your room sees the nicknames and squad names in that room.
  • Bar pages show a bar's name, city and how many people asked for it. They never show who asked.

How long we keep it

  • Rooms, players and answers are deleted 7 days after a game is created.
  • Share cards and leaderboard entries stay, so your links keep working. They are no longer connected to your device after the room is deleted.
  • Question packs stay until you delete them.
  • Bar requests stay so the counts keep adding up.
  • Usage counts stay, without any link to a player once the room is deleted.

Your browser

We use your browser's local storage, not cookies, to remember your device ID, your last nickname, whether sound is muted, your Daily streak, and the host or pack links you created. There are no ad trackers and no third-party analytics. Clearing this site's data in your browser resets all of it.

Who helps us run it

The site is hosted by Vercel and the game data lives in a Supabase database in the United States. They process data only to run WitSquad. A notification service sends the WitSquad team activity alerts: totals, and the nicknames involved when a shared link leads to a game. It never receives answers, device IDs or anything else about you. We do not sell or share your information with anyone else.

Kids

WitSquad is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Removing something

If you want a share card, leaderboard entry or nickname removed, email steve@skytech.io with the link or the name and date, and we will take it down.

Changes

If this changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
